YESIST12 (Youth Endeavours for Social Innovation using Sustainable Technology) is an international platform that empowers students and young professionals to develop technological solutions addressing humanitarian and social challenges. Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), YESIST12 fosters a community of socially responsible innovators committed to making a tangible impact.Over the years, YESIST12 has grown into a significant platform for nurturing innovation and fostering industry-academia collaboration.

History and Goals

The idea of YESIST12 started as a small local assistive technology competition in 2013 and was expanded into a Sustainable Development Goal competition in 2016 with just four countries and two tracks. Now, it has grown into a multicontinental global competition with nearly 30 countries participating every year which encourages participants to develop sustainable, technology-driven solutions for societal challenges.

The primary goals of YESIST12 include:

  • Encouraging youth-led innovation for social good.
  • Bridging the gap between industry, academia, and government initiatives.
  • Providing mentorship and funding opportunities for promising projects.
  • Enhancing diversity and inclusion in STEM fields.

Tracks and Their Significance

Participants can engage in multiple tracks, each focusing on different aspects of innovation and social impact:

  1. Innovation Challenge: An international project competition encouraging participants to develop innovative ideas addressing social and humanitarian issues.
  2. Junior Einstein: A track designed to ignite curiosity and innovation among young minds, providing a transformative opportunity to broaden their horizons.
  3. Maker Fair: A unique platform for innovators, makers, and creators to showcase their products to the international community, fostering a culture of practical innovation.
  4. WePOWER: A track aimed at promoting women engineers and practitioners in the energy and power sector, encouraging normative change regarding women in STEM education.
  5. Special Track – Develops assistive technologies for individuals and communities based on the need.
  6. IEngage (Industry Engagement): Focused on bridging the gap between industry and the student community, this track aims to elevate innovators to the next level of product and startup development.

Outcomes and Impact

YESIST12 has successfully supported numerous projects that have been implemented at both local and global levels. Participants have received mentorship, industry exposure, and funding to transform their ideas into real-world solutions.
